Many writing coaches with a focus on entertainment namely - scriptwriting - tout their credentials as staff in writers’ rooms. The problem is, they sell you not just the tried and true “formula writing” that got them their staff jobs, but also their take on strategy which is basically parroting how gatekeepers want writers to “behave.” Their insider take, beholden to the talking points of their agents and producers, is reheated and rehashed - win a writing contest, get a manager, get staffed, hope to one day pitch your show. That’s a ten year plan based off of a series of low percentage shots. Translation - not a winning strategy. 

While Nick has worked with writers at each level in a writers’ room, Staff, Exec Story Editors, etc, and consulted on projects at major streamers, he talks to his writing clients with an outsider's perspective. He knows how the industry thinks, but instead of playing their game - he advocates for rule breaking, a rebellious level of personal advocacy, and empowered asking. The shame game of “ruining contacts,” “being blacklisted, etc - a lexicon used by gatekeepers to put writers in their place, or a language “more credentialed” scriptwriters employ to act holier than thou - is not something Nick subscribes to.

Ditto this for the new breed of client that has flocked to Nick recently - authors, thought leaders, and personal brand storytellers. Nick’s basic strategy is to learn the rules of the industry, metabolize the non-negotiables an industry swears are necessary to sell your memoir, your novel, etc - and then break those rules at record speed.

The thing Nick hears more than anything else is that “you’re the first coach to give me tools.” When you work with Nick he’s not trying to be possessive over process, or fundamentally alter the winding path of your ideas - he gives you small, actionable goals and a clear skill set to solve your writing problems - whatever they are.
